November 2024 Newsletter
DIRECTOR’S THOUGHTS, NOVEMBER 2024
The following are some very important and interesting facts about the month of November. Hope you enjoy as you read through the facts:
Sitting square in between October and December, November is the eleventh month of the Gregorian calendar. November is seen as a time to start finalizing any plans or projects that you had for the year. The weather in November is starting to get a bit intense, too! For us who live in the northern hemisphere, fall is coming to an end, the last leaves are falling, and it’s getting quite cold out. November is unsurprisingly quite different for those who live in the southern hemisphere. (Temperatures are already ramping up, with the beginning of summer just around the corner. By now, you’ve hopefully dusted off the barbecue and cleaned the pool, as they’ll be the stars of your home for the next few months!)
Like every other month of the year, November has plenty to show for itself. November is the last of the four months, which have 30 days. The other months are September, April and June. Many people in the US can recall what they were doing at 12:30 pm on November 22, 1963. It was on this day that President John F. Kennedy, known as JFK, was fatally shot while riding along with his wife in a procession of cars. He was rushed to a hospital all too late and was pronounced dead at 1 pm that day. Kennedy was the fourth US president to be assassinated, after Abraham Lincoln, James Garfield, and William McKinley. The US has its own historic day, too. Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November and has been celebrated since 1621. The first Thanksgiving was a feast celebrating the first bountiful harvest of the pilgrims of Plymouth and New England. It is still celebrated in a similar way, with families coming together and sharing plentiful amounts of food traditionally available during November.
Those born in November are born under one of two very different star signs. If you’re born before November 23rd, then you have the sign of Scorpio. Those born on November 23rd or later have the sign of Sagittarius. Scorpios are said to value trust and honesty above other things, as well as being quite intense yet imaginative people. Those born under the sign of Sagittarius are quite different, being energetic and idealistic while also generous and open-minded.
On November 19, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address at the consecration of the National Cemetery at the site of the Gettysburg battle. While Lincoln’s speech was just two minutes long, it summed up everything important there is about democracy. Interestingly, Lincoln was in the middle of a minor bout of smallpox while he gave the speech and looked drained and ghost-like.
November is a bit of an interesting month when you think about it. While it’s still the end of fall, it seems that winter has already been dragging on for a while already. While this can be a bit of a depressing concept, it’s good to keep in mind that while winter is coming, so are the first days of snow! From my family to yours, may have a most Bountiful and Blessed Thanksgiving. Your Elected Director, Sally Getz
“Free Spirit” Meeting Minutes – October 1, 2024
Meeting called to order @ 7:25 pm. 15 members are present. Sally “Welcomed” everyone and asked for any sharing of what members did during last month. Eric Hunsberger attended a car show and was awarded a SECOND PLACE award, CONGRATULATIONS, ERIC!! Dini Vigliano also attended a car show as did Thomas/Kathleen Duckett. Thomas/Kathleen shared some interesting items that the show they attended did, ie, scanning a QR code for peer judging purposes, non- class show, etc. these might be some things that our annual show can look into for 2025? Bob Miles attended the BDE (Buick Driving Enthusiast) tour, or as Bob called it, the Buick drinking and Eating Tour, LOL. Truly, if anyone has ever gone on a couple of day’s tour, it DOES seem all you do is sleep, eat and drink.
Motion to accept September’s meeting minutes as printed in October’s newsletter, William Hallman, seconded by Steve Chappelear, so carried.
Treasurer’s report: Report given for August/September 2024, motion to accept, Shirley Schaffer seconded by Bob Miles, so carried.

Lehighton: Show flyers are available for the taking to be handed out to shows members may attend during early October. Members are HIGHLY NEEDED to attend to fulfill the duties of parking cars and working at the registration area. Registration begins at 9:00 AM. Members to meet on Friday at 1PM to help mark off vendor spaces and determine class parking. (Sally, Steve, Eric, Dan, John, Tom and Kathleen). Thus far, Sally has 25 pre-registered cars and 8 pre-registered flea market spaces.
A discussion concerning changes to the car show format for 2025 show? Nothing formalized yet but there were the following suggestions:
- .. No pre-registration, just pay, receive a packet that the driver can fill out.
- .. No Classes –
- .. Park in any open space, this allows friends to park together.
- . .. Have voting for “best of show” cars, using QR codes. Discuss the number of awards.
- .. Add to Facebook as an event- this allows it to be added to the calendar.
- .. Rain Date ???? needs further discussions.
