DIRECTOR’S THOUGHTS, FEBRUARY 2023 

Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone!!  No matter how you spend this special holiday, you are a very special person and you are loved and thought of  in a very special way!!  

At this time of year, the weather is cool to shivering cold.  The days are becoming a little longer.  It is hard to believe the car season will start in a month or two!!  Why, it’s only 4 months away from the June 21-24, 2023, tri-Regional Buick Meet to be held at the Classic Auto Mall, Morgantown, PA!  The holiday Inn rooms are filling up very fast.  Make your reservations now, for if something comes up that you are unable to make the show, you can cancel your room reservation 2 weeks in advance of the show with NO MONIES LOST!!  Wednesday is a cruise-in from 4-8 pm at the Mall.  Thursday there will be day tours you can attend followed by enjoying your dinner meal at Shady Maple Smorgasbord facility, only 8 miles away!  Friday is show day followed by the awards banquet in the evening.  Saturday other day tours are being offered for your entertainment.  To register for this show, please see forms and more information in this newsletter.

During this event, our chapter will be responsible for the hospitality area for Thursday and Friday.  There, snack like foods and a variety of soft drinks and water will need to be maintained.  This area is located inside the mall in an area which served as a food court when it was actually a mall.  I will be asking for volunteers to help in maintaining this area.  Besides having store bought goodies to offer, homemade individually wrapped goodies will be appreciated.   Please consider volunteering a few hours of your time, along with your favorite “Homemade Goodies!”     

 “Free Spirit” Meeting Minutes – January 3, 2022

Meeting called to order @ 7:16 pm.  15 members present.  Sally “Welcomed” everyone to tonight’s meeting.             

Motion to accept December meeting minutes, NONE. 

Annual “Holiday Gathering” was held.

Treasurer’s report:  Treasurers report for December 2022.  Motion to accept Todd Kriner, seconded by Steve Chappelear, so carried.

Historian: no report

Lehighton –  Further discussion @ BOD meeting following general business meeting.

Membership –  Received monies in David Brady memorial contributions.

Newsletter –  Received 5 newsletter advertiser renewals. Anyone who may know of a business that would like to place a yearly add in the monthly newsletter, please contact Sally and she will do the foot work.

Publicity –  no report

Ways-n-Means – Sold blanket to BCA member in Indiana.

OLD BUSINESS:    Tri-Regional Buick Show, the Classic Auto Mall, Morgantown, Pa,  June 21-24, 2023.  Make your Holiday Inn room reservations for the 2023 show now.  Be sure to mention “BU2” upon making your room reservation(s). CALL HOTEL DIRECTLY!!!!!   The following is what one can expect:

•  6/21/23  Wednesday =  Cruise-In at the Mall, 4 pm -8 pm.
•  6/22/23  Thursday = day tours =  AOW/Bulgari’s Restoration Shop,
•                 Dinner tour to Shady Maple Smorgasbord.
•  6/23/23  Friday = show car day followed by a banquet.
•  6/24/23  Saturday = day tours = AACA Library/AACA Museum

Our chapter has been asked to organize & maintain the hospitality area during this event next June in the mall.    

NEW BUSINESS:  Bob Miles got his name and picture in the January edition of the” Bugle” with his 1970 Buick Electra.

BOD meeting called to order @ 7:36 pm.  4 officers and 5 BOD present.  Sally “Thanked” everyone in attendance.

Annual Chapter Picnic:  Sunday, June 11, 2023, Weeping Willow Pavilion, Macungie Park, Macungie, PA.

Newsletter Advertisers:  Looking for advertisers for the monthly newsletter.  Lost 2.  If you know of anyone or business, please contact Sally.

Yearly Expenses (printing of newsletter & postage):  

Sally reported that, at this time, the chapters expenses of yearly printing & postage is double the expense of what income is taken in. It was discussed that for those members who do not have an email address, they will still receive a printed newsletter.  E-newsletter was heavily discussed and passed with majority vote to start March 2023.  

Chapter Dues:  NEW member & renewal dues were tabled & will be discussed @ a further time.  

Lehighton, Old Car show, Sunday October 29, 2023:

1. Registration = 9:00 am – 12 noon.
2. Vehicle Pre-Registration = $15.00.  Day of show registration = $20.00.
3. Vendor area to hold same area as in 2022.  Pre-registration = $15.00/space, day of show registration = $20.00/space.
4. Franklin township Lions club to provide foods.
5. Classes as follows:  

•         Class A = 1938 & older, cars/trucks
•         Class B = 1939 – 1949, cars/trucks
•         Class C = 1950 – 1959, cars/trucks
•         Class D = 1960 – 1969, cars/trucks
•         Class E = 1970 – 1979, cars/trucks
