July 2022 Newsletter
DIRECTOR’S THOUGHTS, JULY, 2022
I find it very hard to believe its’ JULY already, how about you? Why in just 6 more months, we will be celebrating the “Holiday” season!! Unbelievable!!
Besides mowing grass & controlling the unwanted weed population, I am enjoying each & everyday! For those who attend car events, just go on car web sites & you will find that you can attend a car event every Saturday & Sunday! The car season is sort of back to normal, except for the price of gas!
The plans, on hosting the June 21-24, 2023, Tri-Regional Buick Meet @ the Classic Auto Mall, Morgantown, Pa, are coming together nicely. This is being planned by several BCA chapters along the Eastern seaboard of the US. Watch future newsletters for more information. Once available, do not hesitate to make your reservations and registration(s)!
Last month was CHAPTER RENEWAL month. If you did not renew, do it today!! Dolores is waiting to hear from YOU! HAPPY 4th of JULY!
Your Elected director, Sally Getz
“Free Spirit” Meeting Minutes – June, 2022
Annual “Free Spirit” Chapter picnic held in lieu of monthly meeting. See you @ the September meeting!
May 21, 2022, Bethlehem Tour
Saturday, May 21, 2022, 12 “Free Spiriters” and 1 guest had the tour of their lives! It was a picture-perfect day to be outside for a very informative & historical tour.
Tour Masters, Kathleen/Thomas Duckett took the Spiriters to Bethlehem, Pa. Once there, the group received a most enjoyable & thoroughly historical tour of the National Museum of Industrial History of Steel. The docent gave the group so much knowledge, it was very interesting. It is truly unbelievable of how the working conditions were back in the day & how much a person made back then. Hope you enjoy the pics.
From the Museum, the group salivated over their lunch selections @ Molly’s Restaurant, Bethlehem, Pa. From lunch, the Spiriters then received another GREAT historical tour of the Bethlehem steel Blast furnaces. Again, the docent gave a very detailed &excellent history lesson on the Steel Plant. It was hard to believe to hear this history of how steel was made. So very sad of how such a fluent & productive company came to its demise in 1995!
Much “THANKS” to Kathleen/Thomas Duckett for planning & organizing such an informative historical tour for this chapter. Also, “THANKS” to those members who participated!
Dr. William K. Schaffer, D.D.S.
William K. Schaffer, DDS, 93, of Allentown, passed away on May 16, 2022 in St. Luke’s Hospice House, Bethlehem. He was the husband of Alice M. (Morrow) Schaffer.
Annual Chapter Picnic
The “Free Spirit” chapter annual picnic was held on Sunday, June 12th under the Weeping Willow Pavilion, Macungie Park, Pa. 14 members, 2 grandchildren & 3 guests were in attendance. It was so GREAT to see Rita/Don Atwood for we have not seen them for a long while!!
By 1:30 pm when everyone had consumed their scrumptious lunch & dessert, the fun-n-games began. “BUICK HANGMAN” was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Buick slogans is what needed to be completed. The “BUICK” car was almost hung once, @ the end, when the slogan was identified.
After the Buick Hangman game was completed, a few rounds of “BUICK BINGO” was played. All in all, everyone had an enjoyable time with much laughter! Plus, the rain held out till everyone got home safely! Till next year….. Sally Getz
