June 2022 Newsletter
DIRECTOR’S THOUGHTS, JUNE, 2022
June is the official month of Summer! Brides get married, people go on family vacations, car events are attended, family picnics/gatherings are held, flowers are in bloom & are planted, & the grass grows only to be mowed. No matter the month, everyone’s life, nowadays, is SO…. busy.
We need to slow our lives down & take time out for ourselves. Life is too short. I believe in having “To Do” Lists & projects to be completed, but we need to enjoy our lives too & relax. I know the saying, “Don’t put off till tomorrow that you can do today,” but there is always time to get things done! We have to treat every day like it would be our last. If you want to go somewhere, buy something, go ahead. Enjoy your live as you see fit. In the latter month of April & early May, I know 7 persons who passed away, mostly unexpected w/ a range of age from 42-90 years of age. Sorry for being morbid, but it is reality, so go out &enjoy your lives!
Buy that car, buy that house, attend car events, visit museums, go on vacations, visit your friends & family who live out-of-state, watch your garden grow, pit on that addition to your home, do whatever makes you happy & enjoy life! Enjoy your summer!
Your Elected director, Sally Getz

OLD BUSINESS: Annual chapter picnic = Sunday, June 12, 2022, Weeping Willow Pavillion, Macungie Park, Macungie, Pa. A few rounds of “BUICK BINGO” will take place.
May 21, 2022, tour masters Thomas/Kathleen Duckett will be taking the group with personal tours to the Industrial Museum and History of Bethlehem Steel. Everyone is to meet there. 1st tour to promptly begins @ 10 AM.
NEW BUSINESS: 5 members participated in “HOBBY” night tonight.
- Thomas Duckett = raising “Honey Bees” & to make Honey! He presently has 5 hives. Honeybees can be very temperamental, meaning they can be as cool as a cucumber, or be very mean. Tom has been stung 17 times once despite wearing his safety Bee suit. Raising Honeybees is a very expensive hobby. The problem is them able to survive the winter season. Bees do not hibernate. They form a cluster & store “B-bread” (pollen) so they can eat to survive the winter season. Besides this, they need to keep the Queen Bee warm & safe. The Queen Be needs to be in 95 degrees of warmth. How can this be done? The worker Bees rotate inner to outer, outer to inner to keep her warm. Esides the warmth, the beehive can die from bee Mites. When Tom is delivered a box of about 10,000 Honeybees, Bee Mites come w/ the bees. Usually by June the Bees populate w/ the Queen & so the eggs are infested w/ Bee Mites that Tom has to spray the larvae/eggs w/ Formic Acid (a natural chemical) to kill the mites, otherwise the mites kill the Bees. Kathleen states she will bring some Honey to the chapter picnic next month!
- John Moore = collecting PA/MD beer trays. At present, John has approximately 100 + trays that he has collected over the years. If you can think back many many years ago, there was a brewery in every town with bars on every corner, basically. Well, the brewery would supply the bars w/ not only their brews, but also beer trays! A long time ago, John stopped by a yard sale & saw a beer tray that fascinated him& he got hooked. While he collects trays, he looks out for the very unique ones. Amongst his collection, he has a “Dr. Suess” tray from Rhode Island! There is a National Beer Tray Club FYI.
- David Brady =writing Poetry. Dave read 2 poems he wrote: “Tim Brental” is about the development of Tim & Dave’s friendship which began w/ restoring a 1948 Pontiac Convertible. As their friendship flourished over the years, Tim battled Cancer twice. Eventually Tim did not pull through the second round. The car got finished after Tim’s death. Dave was very distraught he had a difficult time to express his feeling over Tim’s death, but thinking about their friendship, Dave finally found the courage to handle the death of his very close friend by writing a poem about Tim Brendal. The 2nd poem = “Mother” which he wrote about his “Mother.” Dave stared out w/ the birth of his mother. Then went on about how the family grew & grew w/ children. Now you can imagine what a mother entails taking care of & raising 7 children during her lifetime! In this poem, Dave’s words flowed so sweetly. He has a great talent as long as he has & knows the information for him to write about.
- Sally Getz = Gnomes. There are 2 types of Gnomes: Gnomes who have eyes, & those who do not have eyes but the brim of their hat down to their nose. Sally likes the gnomes w/ eyes. She started her hobby many many years in the past. Her 1st Goebel Gnome was a Fisher Man who caught a fish on the end of his line! He was bought in Sea Isle City, NJ when they vacationed there. Clarence surprised her then w/ 2 styles of Gnomes wallpaper. 1 style was in the nursery when they started their family, the other style in a room leading into their upstairs bathroom. Her most pride& joy is the “Gnome In the Box”. (Like Jack In the Box).
- Todd Kriner = 1963 Split-Window Corvette. Todd mentioned how Andrea loves Corvettes (her shaking her head “No” in the background). Then Todd pulls out of his pocket, a Corgi model of a 1963 split-window Corvette! Well, did everyone thoroughly enjoy Todd’s presentation!! Todd collects Corgi model cars to his liking. Todd states, “Everyone is a kid @ heart.”
Many many “THANKS” to those members who participated in “Hobby” night.
Motion to adjourn, Dolores Kennedy, seconded by Kathleen Duckett, so carried, 8:33 pm.
Submitted, Sally Getz
