April 2022 Newsletter
DIRECTOR’S THOUGHTS, APRIL 2022
March can be a funny month as far as the weather. We can experience warmer days or continued cooler days and nights w/ the possibility of snow showers just like what happened on March 9th!! While some of us experienced a couple of inches of snow, others experienced a dusting of snow. Either way, the weather can be very unpredicted at times. I cannot wait for more constant warmer days and nights, how about you?
I am planning and organizing a day tour to the Classic Auto Mall, Morgantown, Pa. The date is April 1st, yes, April Fool’s Day. Classic Auto Mall is a world class consignment house located in southeastern Pennsylvania with indoor showroom space for up to 1,000 collectable and special interest vehicles offered for sale. Over 400 vehicles on display. This wonderful facility started life as a clothing outlet mall in 1985 and then evolved into a furniture outlet mall until it closed its doors in 2011.
After you enjoy the day at the “MALL”, we will then take a very short drive down the road to Shady Maple Smorgasbord and have lunch. After our lunch, there is a full, huge gift shop under the restaurant where one can get lost in time. We will plan on meeting @ the Starlite Diner & Lounge on Friday, April 1st in their parking lot closest to Yocco’s place of business. We will leave there @ 9:30 am. Please feel free to meet there for breakfast prior to the leave time. Save this date on your calendars.
Submit your $8.00 per person attending to Sally Getz by March 28, 2022. Hope you can come for a fun day!!
For those members who come from an Irish background, “Happy St. Patrick’s Day.” May you enjoy the day w/ your Irish friends and family.
Your elected Director, Sally

OLD BUSINESS:
Annual chapter picnic = Sunday, June 12, 2022, Weeping Willow Pavillion, Macungie Park, Macungie, Pa.
NEW BUSINESS:
Friday, April 1, 2022, chapter tour to Classic Auto Mall, Morgantown, Pa. Lunch following tour @ Shady Maple Smorgasbord. $8.00 per person reserving. Meet @ Starlite Diner & Lounge by 9:30 am.
Guest speaker = Bob Miles, born 1931, gave a presentation on what it was like growing up living on a scrap/junk yard. During the 1930’s – 1940’s, he, along w/ his 4 brothers and 1 sister, would burn wood up in scrap cars to make some money. At that time they’d make a profit of $0.35 to spend it on ice cream at their local soda pop shop. During the 1940’s, scrap became very popular due to the war. They, then, earned approximately $20.00 a ton of scrap. Scrap consisted of milk glass lids from mason jars, metals, steel, zinc, and brass. Scrapping back then was very different than compared to today, but Bob and his family had good times!!
Motion made to adjourn, Thomas Duckett, seconded by Roland Rapp, so carried. Time 8:39 pm.
Respectfully submitted, Lisa Senishen, Secretary
