February 2022 Newsletter
DIRECTOR’S THOUGHTS, FEBRUARY, 2022
It was certainly a much warmer New Year’s then I can ever remember, but I am not complaining mind you, LOL. It is truly unexpected to have weather in the 50’s one day, only to do a 360 degree turn the next day as it has done on the southern eastern seaboard as it did! As I am working on my thoughts, the news came on and the weatherman is talking about sleet and snow coming, which is fine, but now my area will get hit this time around. All I can say, is this, “I feel for all of those who have to go to work and drive in the bad weather, for I AM RETIRED!!” No further driving stress for me as far as driving to/from work goes w/ bad weather. Daily driving in itself is still very stressful, but a different type of stress, LOL. All I can say is, take your time, watch out for the other driver, and be aware of your surroundings!
You had better get at fixing up your BUICKS if they need some type of fixing for February is here! Just think, in another month or so, SPRING will be here! YEH! As I scan the internet for car events, the lists are becoming longer each time I visit the sites! Don’t forget to check out the “CAR/PARTS FOR SALE” section of this monthly newsletter. Listed are some lists of parts you may need. Spread the word in case you know of a fellow Buick enthusiast who may need some parts.

Saturday, January 8, 2022
On this date, 14 “Free Spiriters” met at America on Wheels for a day of adventure! Their first stop was a guided tour of the R & B Collection across from AOW.
R&B Collection: Two Brothers That Love Cars.
Since 1991, brothers Al and Alex Ruozzi have worked with some of the most exciting, interesting, and rare automobiles on the planet. They buy, restore, sell, and trade not only fine automobiles, but also very special pieces of history. Classic Cars are a major part of their lives. Having the opportunity to develop friendships through these wonderful machines is both an honor and a privilege. Their mission first and foremost focuses on excellence, from the vehicles they restore to the customer service they strive to provide to each and every client. Their belief is “Where quality meets efficiency & excellent customer service.” They provide general service, restoration, concours preparation, and consulting for their customers.
After that tour, the group then got a guided tour by Gary Hiller @ America on Wheels:
Incorporating model designs from 1931 to 1951, it follows the obsession of one youngster with his first car, a 1930 Ford – Model A Cabriolet that he saved from the junkman in 1954 when he was twelve years old, lovingly restored it until he was old enough to drive it, and the story continues up until his purchase of a 1933 Auburn Boattail Speedster in 2021. Along the way, Mr. Hiller acquired five Buicks, another Ford, and a Chrysler.
The uniqueness of this exhibit is in the details: how young Gary got his first car, free as a gift, from his Aunt Fran, stored it in his grandmother’s backyard for four years, working on it until he was old enough to actually drive it. And how he purchased a 1936 Buick Roadmaster, “Old Blue,” in 1965, which started Gary’s love for Buicks. When he purchased this car (for $32) in Hempstead, NY, it had 55,785 miles on the odometer. Today, “Old Blue” has 60,360 miles on the odometer. The car had been in a garage for 24 years. The oil had not been changed since October 14, 1941 – he left the original oil change stickers on the door. Besides the many different vehicles on display, the AOW train display was viewed by all. After their day of touring, a late lunch was enjoyed by all @ the Golden Gate Diner on Union Boulevard in Allentown, Pa. Many “THANKS” to Gary for planning & organizing this event for the “Free Spirit” membership.

To honor the life of Betty White, the AACA Museum, Hershey, Pa, declared Sunday, January 16th, “Betty White Day”. The day honored the veteran actress’s life and special connection to the Museum. At 11 a.m., guests were invited to join in remembering Betty’s timeless wit and charm, get an up-close look at “The Parakeet, and take advantage of a photo-op with the car.
