Director’s Thoughts – SEPTEMBER, 2021
HEAR YE, HEAR YE. The monthly “Free Spirit” Chapter dinner meetings will reconvene on Tuesday, September 7, 2021! It seems just like yesterday it was May and the meeting was held before summer break! Where does the time fly?
I hope everyone had an enjoyable summer attending events before the long cold winter months come upon us. I would like to encourage everyone who will be attending the September meeting to share their summer events w/ the group.
I would like to “THANK” everyone who attended DAF on Sunday, August 8, 2021! Especially to those members who were there for 7 am parking duty. “THANK YOU!!” I do realize it gets to be a very long day when you have to be somewhere @ 7 am. Again, many thanks!!
For October’s dinner meeting, please take note of the date change. Due to some members attending the Fall Hershey meet, the dinner meeting will be held on the 2nd Tuesday. Please mark your calendars of this change.
Your Elected Director, Sally Getz
WELCOME, NEW MEMBERs!
It is my pleasure to “WELCOME” Mike and Karen Herman, Allentown, Pa with their 1961 Buick LeSabre. Mike and Karen joined this Buick family during DAF. Give them a friendly Buick “HELLO” when you meet them! Be sure to add them to your membership roster.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, “FREE SPIRIT” CHAPTER!!!
Happy Birthday to this chapter! Without all of YOU, this chapter would not be in existence today!! So thank you all for being very much involved to form this Buick Chapter!! As you all are aware, this chapter was formulated by 11 persons. Out of those 11 persons, only 2 persons are here with us today: David Brady and Janice Rossetti.
“THANK YOU” David and Janice
Das Awkscht Fescht, August 8, 2021
Sunday, August 8, 2021 is another day to be put into the books! It was a most beautiful summer day!! 40 gorgeous Buicks were in attendance in the show field during DAF. Approximately ½ of them belonged to “Free Spirit” chapter members!! Boy, what a site to be seen!! All different models, sizes, colors and shapes!! Now these are real CARS!! The cars of today all look the same, right?
I attended w/ my 1982 Buick Riviera this year, I did not vend w/ John Moore. He apparently he did good in vending during DAF this year, good for you John!! Besides showing the Riviera, which is still FOR SALE, the chapter “Ways-n-Means” did okay in sales. $24.00 of Ways-n-Means was taken in along with 1 new membership. I handed out 1 membership form w/ information. I received 3 membership renewal dues. “Thanks to all.”
As this chapter has done for many years, 2 awards are handed out each year on this day during DAF. A PRE-War award, sponsored by the “Buick Club of America,” was presented to Lawrence Martin of Fogelsville w/ his 1939 Buick, Model 40, 4 dr sedan. A POST-War award, sponsored by J. C. Taylor, was presented to Bruce Swayze of Chadd’s Ford w/ his 1955 Buick Roadmaster. Congrats to both of them!!
While sitting there enjoying the sites, many “Free Spirit” chapter members walked and sat around reminiscing about the “good ole times.” It was extremely nice to see those members who we haven’t seen for over a year or more: Charles Arnold, Alan Babp, Gary Hiller, Larry Martin, Chuck Mason, George Oscavich, Thomas Sylvester, and Arlene/Martin Zimmerman!! While old friends reunited, new acquaintances were formed. It certainly was a very relaxed and enjoyable day!! Till next DAF? Sally Getz
I’m pleased to announce that the BCA has engaged the services of a new insurance company and now has policies in place that cover events and activities of our Chapters, Divisions, and Regions. |
Night at the Museum Features “Cars and Country Music”
The annual Night at the Museum fundraising event, benefiting the AACA Museum, will merge cars with country music. In addition, in its aim to preserve motoring history, the event will honor National Parts Depot founder, Jim Schmidt, for his contributions to the automotive hobby.
Troy Engle & Southern Skies will be at the museum for a live performance. Versed in bluegrass and country music, Engle has played festivals across North America with artists like Patty Loveless, Larry Sparks, Buddy Jewell, and more. In addition, he has written award-winning bluegrass hits with Dixie and Tom T. Hall and composed music for TV shows, such as The Voice, Duck Dynasty, and Pawn Stars.
The museum will also present its Automotive Heritage Award to Schmidt, who has a large collection of antique and vintage automobiles, the bulk of them Fords and Lincolns. As a teenager, he learned the art of duplicating old car parts with authenticity and would go on to establish National Parts Depot. The store has become a well-recognized national parts supplier for classics and pickups, while Schmidt has given back to the hobby with his generosity and philanthropy.
The Night at the Museum gathering will take place October 6 during Hershey week. For more about the event, visit aacamuseum.org.
