October 2020 Newsletter
Director’s Thoughts, OCTOBER 2020
I believe this past June, July and August were the hottest months EVER!! My electric bill, as with others, has been at their all-time high due to A/C running since, June? Do you agree? Whew!!
Since the summer has been wrapped up & the, so-called, car season is just about done, has anyone attended the AACA National Meet held in Gettysburg? If you have, I would love to hear about your time during that event. Please send me a write-up w/ pictures, if you have them. I would love to have them printed in next month’s newsletter for others to enjoy.
This past car season certainly has not been friendly to us car enthusiasts. There have been a few clubs and associations who did keep their events on target, but they did not have their normal turnout as other years! Hopefully 2021 will be a much friendlier year for the car season hobby! Let us all look forward to a great 2021!
Now, on the other foot, it is very hard to believe that Fall is here already! Well, on second thought, I “WELCOME” Fall. I do because the weather is cooler. The leaves are changing to the most beautiful colors, & the grass & weeds stop growing!! So that means lawn mowing slows way down!! I as drive home from work, I see more and more outside fall and Halloween decorations to remind me that Fall is here. Before you know it, the Christmas Holiday season will be upon us!
Is anyone attending the Hershey Region AACA Show this October? If you are, I wish you the best of luck!! It sure feels funny not getting prepared to attend the week long flea market vendor part of this show this year due to the impact of Covid -19. All I can do is to hope for the best for 2021!
Your Elected Director, Sally Getz

“Free Spirit” Chapter received a check with a letter from the Kiles from volunteers having had helped out with the hospitality room during the National Buick Meet in Oklahoma of 2019.
RAFFLE: None this month
OLD BUSINESS: Members were handed a paper containing 12 BUICKS, different years/makes to be identified. Don Atwood, David Brady & Thomas Duckett identified many, if not all, of the BUICKS.
PRESENTATION: David Brady thanked the members who had him in their prayers, thoughts, cards, phone calls, and visits as he went through some medical issues.
David Brady then gave a brief history on this chapters’ birth. 44 years ago this month, the birth of the “Free Spirit” Chapter, Buick Club of America occured. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, “FREE SPIRIT” CHAPTER!!!!!
David Brady gave a very nice presentation on the past 1986 National Buick Meet, June 19-22, 1986, of which was held @ Indianapolis, Indiana. He talked of how, at that time, 9 “Free Spirit” members attended this event.
Charlie/Kathleen Arnold 1941 Buick
David Brady 1947 Buick Convertible
Kenneth Hartman 1948 Buick Convertible
Bruce McKenzie 1940 Buick Convertible
Bruce/Louise Stephens 1958 Buick Limited Convertible
Rodney/Connie Wiedinmyer 1958 Buick Limited Convertible
There, David Brady met Mr. Greg Followfield, founding father of the BCA. With that said, David bray then joined the other many members of the BCA. David talked about the many GOOD and FUNNY times those members had during that event. The caravans first stop was in Sharon, Pa. Then off to Columbus, Ohio where Dave’s car began w/ an antifreeze problem. Once fixed, off to Indianapolis, Indiana they all went. Once there, the show field was on the Raceway Track. As an attendant, you were allowed to drive on the actual race track, but only as fast as 40 mph. Well, don’t tell anyone, but David admitted he drove a little faster (60 mph), SHHH. Each one of the “Free Spirit” members received a 2nd place award during that event.
When the meet was over, the 9 members headed home, but not without some occurrences! David Brady ran out of gas while on the Ohio Turnpike. Then Kenneth Hartman & Charlie Arnold ran out of gas just as the caravan was pulling into a gas station!! Bruce Stephens said, “Gee, what some people will do to get attention!” On their way home, the group stopped by & visited the Duesenberg Museum, Ohio. David Brady encouraged that if you get a chance to visit this museum, you really should. It was a wonderful stop!! While driving on the Ohio Turnpike, at one point, David Brady & Bruce McKenzie were “DRAG RACING” one another going approximately 90-100 mph!! The caravan spent a night in a hotel that the inside joke was that it was the “BATES HOTEL!”
All members made their way home safely from that Meet. David passed around pictures of that event. “Thank you” Dave for sharing!!
