Director’s Thoughts for September 2012
WHEW, what another GREAT year for DAF! Those Ontelaunee Indians sure can pull off a GREAT show year after year. It requires a lot of hard work from each & every member, year after year, to hold a successful show like DAF! My sincere CONGRATULATIONS to those Indians to brave the heat to present such a huge successful show. Clarence & I got to see many of “Free Spirit” members during DAF. It just goes to show what enthusiasm there is in the car hobby. We also got to meet and greet Mr. Iohn Scheib, BCA NE Regional Codirector & Mr. John Henry from the Minuteman Chapter! They have heard so much about the show, they were very curious! During their stay in Macungie, they not only enjoyed DAF, but also attended a car auction that Saturday that had some very interesting cars up for auction, one of them being a 1922 Buick!! On Sunday @ DAF, 51 BEAUTIFUL Buicks were on display. It was a rather difficult job for the chapter Director to fulfill its duty to honor 3 awards to 3 participants. All the cars were deserving of an award. The following were recipients of the 3 following chapter awards: Buick Club of America (BCA) Award, Pre War Walter Krieg of Scranton, Pa, 1938 Buick Century ] C Taylor Award, Post War -David / Allison Gortva of Freeland, Pa. 1957 Buick Roadmaster Best Unrestored Buick Award in Memory of Deceased Members of “Free Spirit” Chapter Ralph Kepner of Port Royal, Pa, 1977 Buick Riviera CONGRATS! Please remember for next year, @ DAF, BUICK will be the marque. Please visit our web site under “Calendar of Events” to obtain your registration form(s) to PRE-register for 2013!! We are anticipating a huge & wonderful turnout of beautiful BUICKSH While the DAF show will be celebrating its 50th Birthday, Buick will be celebrating its 110th Birthday!! You might want to be a part of this once in a lifetime celebration! Moving on, please be cognizant of the fact that SCHOOLS are back in session. Please stay alert for those school buses & children crossing roads. Also, please be cognizant of the fact that this month, September, the chapter membership will be reconvening w/ the monthly meetings @ Starlite Diner & Lounge, Rts. 100 & 78 @ 7:30 pm, supper @ 6:00 pm. This month’s guest speaker is our own Sandy Reiniger. She is a representative of “Stream Energy” & is eager to share w/ the membership of what this is and how it functions! Also, this month, 35 years ago, the Free Spirit Chapter was born. We will be celebrating its 35th Birthday. Please join us in helping to Celebrate this joyous occasion!!
