November 2012 Newsletter
Director’s Thoughts for November 2012
As I was sitting out in Hershey, Pa. at the Hershey Region AACA meet at our flea market spaces for the week, it came to me, Hershey is actually here & will be gone in just a few days! My how the time fly’s! I can remember looking forward to this event for the longest time & now it is over for yet another year.
During the week there, I not only saw many fellow “Free Spirit” chapter members, but also others of whom I met last year & many many years before. You see, Clarence & I have attended Hershey many years before we had our family. Then w/ the children, I would take the children out of school till they became middle school age. It was more difficult to have them out of school for a week with the increased load of education. So I & the children stayed home. Since the children are now young adults, I returned to Hershey last year, and boy, what a culture shock I had! Instead of grass & mud, everything was macadam-ed, which is for the better I’d say!
I have always found Hershey very educational & most enjoyable. One can always learn so much in just talking to people not only from the USA but also from other countries: Canada, France, Sweden, Germany, Netherlands, Australia, Romania, etc! They have such a wealth of love for BUICKS! While the boys, Clarence & John, talked & sold parts, or went out & about looking for treasures, I made sure they got their fair share of healthy meals, breakfast & lunch. Then I shined by being taken out @ night for supper! That in itself is the high light of the trip besides smelling the aroma of chocolate at times lingering in the air!
A goal of mine, while being @ Hershey, was to talk to as many local BUICK enthusiasts that I could about DAF 2013. Well, I met my goal! I talked w/ many persons & handed out many invitation letters w/ the registration forms for DAF 2013. Many of them were very receptive & showed a huge interest in being a part of this event for 2013. I am very excited!
Now, back to today. Hopefully, those who plan to attend Novembers meeting will get out & vote before the meeting, thus it being Election Day! During the November meeting, we, too, will be taking votes for officers & Board of Directors. Please be sure to read on in the October meeting minutes for the Nominations taken. If I do not see you @ the November meeting, may you have a “Blessed Happy Thanksgiving!”
Till next month………..
your Elected Director, Sally

The following are a list of words you probably do not hear spoken anymore, see what you think:
Be sure to fill the ice trays, we’re going to have company.
Quit slamming the screen door when you go out.
Be sure & pull the windows down when you leave, it looks like a shower is coming up.
Don’t forget to wind the clock before you go to bed.
Wash your feet before you go to bed, you’ve been playing outside all day barefooted.
Why can’t you remember to roll up your britches legs? Getting them caught in the bicycle chain so many times is tearing them up.
You have torn the knees out of that pair of pants so many times there is nothing left to put a patch on.
Don’t you go outside w/ your school clothes on.
Go comb you hair, it looks like the rats have nested in it all night.
Be sure to pour the cream off the top of the milk when you open the new bottle.
Take that empty bottle to the store w/ you so you won’t have to pay a deposit on another one.
Put a dish towel over the cake so the flies won’t get on it.
Quit jumping on the floor. I have a cake in the oven & you are going to make it fall if you don’t quit.
Let me know when the Fuller Brush man comes by, I need to get a few things from him.
You boys stay close by, the car may not start & I will need you to help push it off.
There is a dollar in my purse, get five gallons of gas when you go to town.
Open the back door & see if we can get a breeze through here, it is getting hot.
You can walk to the store. It won’t hurt you to get some exercise.
Don’t sit too close to the TV. It is hard on your eyes.
If you pull that stunt again, I am going to wear you out.
Don’t lose that button. I’ll sew it back on after a while.
Wash under your neck before you come to the table. You have beads of dirt & sweat all under there.
Get out from under the sewing machine. Pumping it messes up the thread.
Be sure & fill the lamps this morning so we don’t have to do that tonight in the dark.
Here, take this old magazine to the toilet w/ you when you go out. We are almost out of paper out there.
Go to the well & draw a bucket of water so I can wash dishes.
Don’t turn the radio on now, I want the battery to be up when the Grand Ole Opry comes on.
No, I don’t have 10 cents for you to go to the show. Do you think money grows on trees?
Eat those turnips, they’ll make you big & strong like your daddy.
That dog is not coming in this house. I don’t care how cold it is out there, dogs don’t stay in the house.
Sit still, I’m trying to get your hair cut straight & you keep moving & it is all messed up.
Hush your mouth! I don’t want to hear words like that. I’ll wash your mouth out w/ soap.
It is time your system to be cleaned out. I am going to give you a dose of castor oil tonight.
If you get a spanking in school & I find out about it, you’ll get another one when you get home.
Quit crossing your eyes. They will get stuck that way.
It’s, “Yes Ma’am” & “No Ma’am,” to me, young man, & don’t you forget it.
Soak your foot in this pan of kerosene so that bad cut won’t get infected.
When you take your driving test, don’t forget to signal each turn. Left arm straight out the window for a left turn; left arm bent up at the elbow for a right turn; & straight down to the side of the door when you are going to stop.
Don’t watch TV without a light on, it will hurt your eyes.
And finally,
Be sure & wash good behind your ears. There is enough dirt there you could grow corn in it.
Hope you enjoyed reading some “Words you don’t hear anymore!”
-Expect blind curves. In many cases, rural roads are built to be of minimal disturbances to the surrounding landscape. This could mean that roads bend & dip every which way. Pay attention to posted speed limits-they’re very accurate for the road conditions.
-Be on animal watch. In suburban & urban areas, the focus of drivers leans toward watching for other drivers & pedestrians. However, in rural areas, focus should be placed on watching out for animals. Certain times of the day, such as dawn & dusk, tend to be prime times for animals to be on the move, whether finding a new place to bed down or scout for food. A deer can total a car if hit, even low-flying birds can cause damage.
When passing farms, be on the lookout for livestock crossing the road & farmers driving equipment, such as tractors. Around lakes, one may come across geese or ducks.
-The road may not be paved. Some drivers take paved road granted. In rural areas, the roads may be made of gravel or dirt. This calls for slower driving speeds to maintain traction & safety.
-Expect minimal lighting. Driving @ night in rural areas can be nerve-wracking for the inexperienced. Street lights are rare. It may be necessary to use high beams while driving to maintain proper visibility.
-Keep a map in the car. GPS systems have become the standard for most drivers-many of which rely on them solely for navigation. However, in rural areas, mountains or trees may obscure the satellite signal. Having a paper map on hand can give drivers peace of mind.
-Be careful of soft & unmarked shoulders. Rural roads may be built on the side of mountains or ravines. Dirt on the side of the roads could be unstable. These roads also tend to be more narrow. Use caution when pulling to the shoulder or passing other cars.
Thank you.
