Director’s Thoughts for January 2013
Bringing in the new year is always a good time for everyone to take a moment of time to reminisce. Try this: Sit back in your nice snugly comfy chair, place on your lap your favorite nice warm & cuddly blanket, close your eyes, then let your mind drift back in time to your past holiday seasons & the years of your growing up. Let father time take you back to when you were a young child at home with your parents &/or siblings. Remember the many foot snow storms & still having to walk to school till school left out for the holidays? Remember the homemade tree ornaments & garland you made to place on the tree? If you did not make homemade items, remember the shopping you did with your family, going from 1 store to the next? How about making cookies? Or your mother making the Holiday dinner & how the house would smell so good! Remember going to your place of worship with your family & seeing everyone dressed so nice & being full of happiness? Remember how excited you were you could not fall asleep? Remember on the Holiday morning how you could not wait to see what you got? Remember your first Holiday season out on your own, whether you were single or first married? Remember your first job? Remember your first home you bought or the apartment you lived in? Remember your wedding day? Remember when you celebrated the Holiday season with first, your own children, then grandchildren, then great-grandchildren? Remember when you purchased your first car? Remember the tours/trips you took in your car? Remember the first time you ran out of gas, or had a flat tire? Remember the projects (cars or house) you thought you would get to complete but never had the time, or places you thought of visiting but never got the chance to visit? Remember the time when you became a Buick Chapter member & how enthused you were to be a part of an exciting adventure? Well now is the time for you to think about completing some of those things. Your “Bucket List” is calling you! I am sure many of you have heard of the saying, “Don’t put off till tomorrow what you can do today!” Let 2013 become the year for you!
Get up & start completing some of those items you always talk about doing. Get involved & be happy. Get yourself “energized” again! There are only a few months left now till the car season starts in again!!
“Happy New Year” to you along with your families! May your every New Year resolution(s) come true! I truly hope that 2013 brings to you Good Health, Happiness, Hope, Joy, Love, Peace, & Serenity!
“Free Spirit” Holiday Gathering Minutes, December 4, 2012
In lieu of the monthly chapter meeting, the annual ‘Holiday Gathering’ event was held on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at the Starlite Diner & Lounge. 32 members & 2 guests were in attendance. The 5:00 to 6:00 social hour was a delightful time for everyone to mingle before their dinner. Holiday music was played while stories & laughter were shared.
When dinner arrived, everyone enjoyed their entree selections: Chicken Parmigiana, Broiled Haddock, or Black Diamond Steak! The general consensus was that the dinner was served briskly, warm, & scrumptious! Desserts were from pie to cake; from jello to pudding; or from ice cream to sherbert! While dessert was being delightfully consumed, a crosswords puzzle game was handed out. There were 6 words across & 6 words down that had to be placed into the puzzle. Of coarse, the phrases & answers had to do with ‘BUICK!’ Since Robert Miles was the 1st one who completed the crossword puzzle, and who had all 12 answers correct, he was the recipient of a crosswords puzzle book. Dolores Kennedy also was a recipient of a book for having the answers correct too. Brent Getz was the recipient of a crossword puzzle book too, but for having the least amount of answers correct.
Of coarse, after dinner, ‘Crazy Bingo’ was, well, just plain ‘crazy!’ The evening MC was Sally Getz. The hottest item of the evening was a round Chevy clock! Now isn’t that an oxymoron? Attending a Buick event & chasing after a Chevy clock? (Ha, Ha) It was a lot of fun!
While Sandy Sylvester was the recipient of the glass Christmas jar filled with Hershey milk chocolate Kisses, Rita Atwood was the recipient of the glass Christmas jar filled with peppermint Patties. While Kathleen Duckett was the proud recipient of the women’s basket, Bruce Stephens was the proud recipient of the men’s basket.
After all that fun, the annual ‘Swearing-In’ of 2013 officers took place. Thomas Duckett had the pleasure of officiating the “Swearing-In”. The 2013 Slate of officers are as follows:
- Director: Sally Getz
- Assistant Director: Dan Reiniger
- Secretary: Stacy Sterner
- Treasurer: Clarence Getz
- Membership Chairperson: Donald SternerBoard of Directors are as follows:
- Don Atwood,
- David Brady,
- Shirley Schaffer,
- Thomas Sylvester ,Several ‘Applauds’ were done for member’s past services:
- Ed Lenny for his years of service as past secretary
- Isabel Lenny for her past year serving on the Board of Directors
- Sandy Reiniger for her past 10 years, YES, 10 years of faithful service as membership chairperson!
‘THANK YOU’, Ed, Isabel & Sandy! It is always exciting to see everyone together having an enchanted evening out. It was especially nice to see Peggy & King Schaedel, Diane & Robert Miles, & Joanne & George Grossman. When you do not see some members for a while, it is always so nice to see them at a get-together!! Everyone received a homemade favor, made by Stacy Sterner, a ‘YUMMY & SUPERB’ tasting chocolate Christmas pop! The pop just melted in your mouth! Everyone, too, received a red, gold, or green Christmas tree ball ornament. I truly believe that everyone enjoyed themselves!Until next year,

A few thoughts & tidbits to liven up your month of January.I’m betting the guy ‘Fearless Felix’ who fell 128,000 feet (more than 24 miles) to set the world’s skydiving record, will keep his title for a long time. Most of us wouldn’t be crazy to try to break that record.
The military salute is a motion that evolved from medieval times, when knights in armor raised their visors to reveal their identity.
If you get into the bottom of a well or a tall chimney & look up, you can see stars, even in the middle of the day. I would recommend you take my word for it & not actually try it. You might get stuck.
